ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- The bulk of the Almandine garnet in the international
market comes from Australia and India. In India, the domestic
consumption of garnet is very limited (less than 5%) and
is mainly for manufacture of micronised garnet powder.
- More than 95% of garnet produced in the country is exported.
- The bulk of the garnet exported (more than 90%) from
the country till date is from Tamilnadu.
- After the entry of TGI in the garnet exports trade in
early 1997, backed up by WGIHM's continued focus on the
merits of garnet in Abrasive industry, the exports in India
averaging around 13,000 MT p.a. in 1996 increased by 300%
in a year and has touched about 209,000 M.T in 2002.
- TGI has exported about 223,590
tonnes of pure garnet netting a foreign exchange equivalent
to Rs.6599 lakhs till the financial year ending March 2003.
- TGI has a market share of 32-34% of garnet exports from
India.
- TGI has secured merit certificates from CAPEXIL in recognition
of its export performances consecutively for four years
from 1998-2002.
- TGI has been awarded the first prize for exporting maximum
number of containers through Tuticorin port during 1999-2000
by the Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
- While TGI is fully responsible for mining, processing
and production of quality Garnet products, WGI Heavy Minerals
Inc through its well established marketing network is involved
in the marketing of TGI's products.
